University of West Florida Data Science and Business Analytics Degree Programs Available

The University of West Florida offers a Master of Science in Information Technology, specialization in Database Management, which can be completed completely online.  12 credit hours of core courses are required and 18 credit hours of database management specialization courses such as data mining, database administration, database systems, or a computer science project course round out the comprehensive program.

UWF also offers a 36-semester hour MBA program with a Business Analytics emphasis. Students gain an understanding of how analytics affect managerial decisions. Students use data to support the decision-making process. Students also gain strong oral and written communication skills. Graduates are able to plan research study, college relevant data and submit reports that explain their findings. Students gain an understanding of analysis necessary to recommend a course of action as well as how to support those recommendations with solid data. Courses required for the program include:

About University of West Florida

The University of West Florida opened its doors in 1967 but it was actually established in 1963. A feasibility study found that there was a need for an institute of higher learning in Northwest Florida and the Florida legislature allocated funding to begin the university. Groundbreaking for the school took place in 1965 and classes began in 1967.

Today, there are 12,979 students enrolled in the University of West Florida with 76 percent of the student body enrolled as undergraduates and the remaining 24 percent enrolled in graduate programs. The mission of the University of West Florida is to provide a high-quality education with a focus on teaching and research.

University of West Florida Accreditation Details

The University of West Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Accreditation indicates that the university agrees to periodic reviews to confirm that students are receiving excellence in education and that they strive to address any areas the accrediting agency identifies as needing improvement. The school earned accreditation in 1969 and was most recently reaffirmed in 2015. University of West Florida Application Requirements

Students who have 11 credits or less of college credit are considered freshmen at the University of West Florida. Students must provide an official high school transcript and official ACT or SAT scores. Letters of recommendation, essays, and a resume are optional but may be used to improve the chances of enrollment. Students may also share their story and how they could benefit the University of West Florida through ZeeMee.com, a free social media service that promotes individuality using videos, pictures, and documents.

Students who have earned 12 to 29 college credits may enter as transfer students. They must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all college courses attempted as well as a 2.0 GPA at their most recent institution. They must also be in good standing at the most recent university they attended. Students must submit official high school transcripts as well as ACT or SAT scores.

Applicants who have 30 to 59 credit hours must also have a GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing at their most recently attended university. Students must have earned a “C” or better in English Composition and college-level Mathematics. Students must submit proof of high school graduation and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Students who have earned an associate’s degree or 60 or more credits must also have a 2.0 GPA. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as proof of high school graduation.

Graduate applicants must complete an online application which must be submitted six to nine months prior to the start of the semester. Students must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, one of which must display the conferring of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Students must submit official graduate test scores as well. Graduate programs may have other requirements and students are encouraged to speak to an admissions counselor before applying.

University of West Florida Tuition and Financial Aid

All tuition and fees are assessed per credit hour and vary based on the course, where the course is located and the level of study. Undergraduate tuition for students who are residents of Florida is $218.98. Out-of-state students pay $648.37 per credit hour. In some cases, out-of-state students may be offered a 75 percent reduction in tuition, lowering the tuition per credit hour for undergraduate students to $341.67.

Graduate tuition is $384.60 per credit hour for Florida residents and $1,044.24 for out-of-state students. Students who qualify may receive a 90 percent tuition discount, lowering their costs to $478.83 per credit hour.

Alabama residents are eligible for Alabama Differential Tuition which offers a lower out-of-state tuition rate. Students must contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or the Graduate School depending on their degree program to apply for differential tuition. Active duty military who are residing or stationed outside the state of Florida are able to waive all out-of-state fees. They must contact the Military and Veterans Resource Center to qualify.

Financial Aid is available and, in 2017, the University of West Florida awarded nearly $100 million in aid. More than 65 percent of students who attend the university receive financial aid. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for assistance and the FAFSA must be renewed each year. Financial aid may be in the form of grants, scholarship or loans.
