At Carnell Hall, the College of Science & Technology awards a 123-credit B.S in Data Science chaired by Dr. Slobodan Vucetic for wise Temple University Owls in the STEM Alliance who pursue fast-growing jobs in three tracks: Computation Modeling, Computational Analytics, or Genomics/Bioinformatics. Headed by Dr. Ronald Anderson, the Fox School of Business confers Philadelphia’s largest 123-credit BBA in-person or online via Canvas in 16 majors, including Statistical Science and Data Analytics, with 94 percent job placement.

In a 4+1 format, the M.S. in Business Analytics admits Fall cohorts into a 30-credit evening curriculum coordinated by Dr. Samar Khan with the Fox Management Consulting capstone. Exclusively in Philly, the 30-credit M.S. in Computational Data Science led by Dr. Chiu Chiang-Tan culminates with master’s thesis research at the Center for Data Analytics after 5000-level courses like Text Mining.

About Temple University

Temple University originated in 1884 when Boston lawyer and preacher Russell Herman Conwell started tutoring poor young adults at Grace Baptist Church each night. Four years later, the Philadelphia City Council approved Conwell’s charter for The Temple College. In January 1892, Conwell added a 20-bed Samaritan Hospital for Delaware Valley patients. On December 12, 1907, it was formally incorporated with its current Temple University name. By 1918, it launched the School of Business and Management eventually named for CEO Richard J. Fox. Fully accredited in 1921, Temple University began expanding beyond its 118-acre Center City campus on O’Connor Plaza to Ambler, Harrisburg, and even Japan. Fast forward to Fall 2015 and its Data Science Institute proposed the first such Temple B.S. major. Budgeting $1.49 billion, Temple University now employs 4,297 staff serving 39,581 Owls in 166 buildings and online with 300+ clubs like the Association for Computing Machinery.

The U.S. News & World Report ranked Temple the 106th best national university, 68th best for vets school, 93rd top value, and 102nd top computer science college. On Niche, TU boasts America’s 46th best party scene, 53rd best big campus, 56th top public education, and 72nd most liberal academics. Times Higher Education placed Temple University 168th overall. The Princeton Review picked Temple for the fifth most active student government. Forbes lauded TU for the 151st most impactful research nationwide. In Money magazine, Temple landed 167th with a 20-year net PayScale ROI of $313,000. College Factual named Temple University 28th for business and 55th for computer information systems. The Economist placed its Fox School of Business eighth for student diversity. Financial Times also crowned Temple University the country’s 56th best business choice.

Temple University Accreditation Details

On June 21, 2018, Temple University satisfactorily completed the Year Three Evaluation visit from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to retain the maximum Level VI accreditation through 2025 under its 11th president, Dr. Richard Englert, who was an Acres of Diamonds Gala Award Honoree. Based only 4.2 miles down 34th Street in Philadelphia, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to assure quality in Temple’s over 140 bachelor’s and 300 graduate majors. Particularly, the College of Science & Technology was reaffirmed by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) through 2023. The M.S. in Business Analytics was also accredited by the elite Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in April 2015.

Temple University Application Requirements

Turning to Temple University is considered “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because only 20,332 of the 35,880 Fall 2017 applicants were victorious for 57 percent acceptance statistics. First-year Owls seeking the B.S. in Data Science should maintain at least a “B” average in 16 units of college-prep academic subjects. Only GED recipients age 18+ with cumulative 2250 scores are eligible. On average, freshmen achieve a 3.51 GPA, 27 ACT, and 1221 SAT mark. The Temple Option makes admission test-optional for GPAs above 3.50. Undergrad transfers with at least 45 credits remaining and 2.5 GPAs are welcome. Dual Admissions agreements at partner community colleges honor GPAs of 3.3 or greater. The M.S. in Business Analytics generally seeks GPAs over 3.0 in four-year bachelor’s programs or seven years of relevant work. Fox reported a median GMAT score of 650 on Poets & Quants. The M.S. in Computational Data Science seeks 300 GRE minimums instead with Theoretical Calculus and C++ Programming course prerequisites.

Temple University set freshman deadlines of November 1st for Early Action and March 1st for Regular Decision. College of Science & Technology transfers must file before June 1st for Fall and December 1st for Spring starts. Hopeful M.S. in Computational Data Science cohorts apply until December 15th and August 1st respectively. The Fox M.S. in Business Analytics has a December 15th Early Decision and June 30th Final deadline listed. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Temple University charged full-time Pennsylvania B.S. in Data Science majors $9,744 per term or $15,792 annually. Non-resident College of Science & Technology students paid $19,488 each semester or $31,584 by year. Studying part-time incurred $812 to $1,316 per credit. The Fox School of Business cost slightly more at $10,308 in-state and $20,616 out-of-state each semester full-time. Online BBA undergrads always spend $595 per credit though. Living at the Philly campus’ dorms like Morgan Hall adds $3,854 to $7,002 each term. Unlimited meal plans for Esposito Dining Center are $1,956 extra. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals $32,430 in-state and $44,190 out-of-state. M.S. in Business Analytics tuition is currently $1,114 per credit or $33,420 total. The M.S. in Computational Data Science bills Pennsylvanians $1,108 and non-residents $1,453 per credit.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Student Financial Services Office in Carnell Hall helps 78 percent of Temple Owls collect aid packages averaging $8,441 each for $192.25 million combined. Institutional funds include the Camille Cosby Science Scholarship, Bill Bernardo Scholarship, Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship, Diamond Bands Scholarship, Maguire Scholarship, Mario Fantini Scholarship, Pennsylvania Governor’s School Merit Scholarship, 20/20 Scholarship, Henrietta Treen Scholarship, Hearst Foundation Scholarship, Jessie Ball DuPont Scholarship, and Bertha Pasternak Feldman Scholarship. The President’s Scholar Award covers full tuition plus $4,000 stipends yearly for freshmen with minimum 3.8 GPAs. The Alumni Rewards Program deducts 5 percent off the M.S. in Business Analytics for BBA graduates. Since 1997, the Computer & Information Sciences Junior Scholarship has been funded with a March 13th deadline. Federal resources like the Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, Direct Loan, and Work-Study program require FAFSA applications coded 003371.
