Five UA Degrees for Big Data Careers

In Alston Hall, the Culverhouse College of Business led by Dr. Kay Palan awards a 120-credit Management BS with the Health Care Analytics Specialization for University of Alabama Tide seeking medical data processing skills with 16-week internships, such as St. Vincent’s or UAB Hospital. Starting June 2020, Manderson Business Analytics MS will begin a 36-credit, one-year Tuscaloosa track coordinated by Dr. Nickolas Freeman with input from companies like Belk, Allstate, Neiman Marcus, and Procter & Gamble. Directed by Dr. Bruce Barrett, a Young Boozer Excellence Fellow, the 30-credit, 12-month Applied Statistics MS integrates 500-level courses from Data Mining to Multivariate Analysis at the cutting-edge Marillyn A. Hewson Lab. The Marketing MS shapes a 33-credit, AACSB-accredited curriculum under Dr. Buster Allaway in four specializations, including Marketing Analytics, with an active AMA Chapter and Southeast Marketing Symposium. Lastly, the 72-credit Applied Statistics Ph.D. chaired by Dr. Volodymyr Melnykov produces top-level scholars via seminars, exams, and dissertation research in the Institute for Business Analytics.

About the University of Alabama

The University of Alabama first opened on April 18, 1831, with an inaugural class of 105 as the 22nd state’s first public institution on an 800-hectare campus designed by Captain William Nichols. In Fall 1860, President Landon Garland made it a military school for training Confederate officers. University of Alabama Accreditation Details

On December 10, 2015, Tuscaloosa News reported that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmed the Level VI accreditation at the University of Alabama through 2025 under Provost Kevin Whitaker, PhD, who earned the T. Morris Hackney Endowed Faculty Leadership Award. Located 268 miles east via Route 82 in Decatur, this giant 11-state Gulf Coast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to continually review UA’s over 70 undergrad and 120 post-grad offerings. Particularly, the Culverhouse College of Business’ data-driven curriculum was last accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2018.

University of Alabama Application Requirements

Admission to the U.S. News & World Report’s 129th best university is labeled “more selective” since 20,107 of the 28,237 Fall 2016 applicants were okayed for 52.6 percent acceptance. First-year Crimson Tide seeking the Management BS in Health Care Analytics must exhibit academic talent in high school. Culverhouse College of Business transfers need 24+ non-remedial or technical credits with minimum 2.0 GPAs. The Applied Statistics MS seeks bachelor’s grads with high quantitative skill. Admitted post-grads present a median 707 GMAT or 319 GRE score plus 3.53 GPA. The Business Analytics MS requires landing in the exam’s top 60th percentile. Marketing Analytics MS entrants must reach at least the 3.0 GPA or 580 GMAT minimum. Finishing college-level calculus with a “B” or better is mandated. The Applied Statistics PhD prefers Master of Science holders in STEM fields with 650 GMAT and 3.0 GPA figures.
