Students developed practical, marketable skills that took two years to complete. The school allowed students to start their studies on any Monday, attend at night and pay tuition in installments. Students could only move to the higher level courses if they mastered the lower level courses. Rare for the time period, instructors were college-educated with workplace experience.

When the United States entered World War II, the school shifted to providing education to military members. The first program at the school designed for the military was offered at the Manchester Air Base where servicemen took typing, business English and business math during the day, returning to their military studies in the evening. The school began participating in bond drives to raise money for the war effort and accepted disabled veterans in vocational programs. In the 1960s, the school expanded its military offerings throughout New England and into Puerto Rico.

In the early 1960s, the school gained accreditation and changed its name to the New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce. When the school became a non-profit institution, the name changed again to New Hampshire College. At this time, the school was renting as much space as possible in downtown Manchester but was outgrowing the location. In 1971, the school moved to a 300-acre campus on the Merrimack River.

In 1995, the school offered an internet-based learning program and, in 1997, unveiled a one-of-a-kind bachelor’s degree in business administration that took three years to complete. In 1998, the first online doctoral program was offered. The school gained university status in 2001.
