Texas A&M Data Analysis Programs for Business

Texas A&M University offers one undergraduate and two graduate degrees in data science. The BBA in Management Information Systems is a face-to-face program that includes, in addition to university requisites, 21 credit-hours in foundational classes, six credits in directed electives and one required three-credit course. Students may also elect to follow the 4+1 degree plan that enables them to earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years of study. The emphasis of the program is on analysis and design, It is an interdisciplinary degree with courses from the Mays School of Business and with computer engineering courses. Sample courses in the program are Business Object-Oriented Programming with Java and Complex Business Application Design.

The Master’s in Business Analytics is a two-year program that begins with a four-course foundational unit that can be waived if the student has appropriate undergraduate coursework. There are eight core courses plus electives in the General Option-No Minor track that provide 30 credit hours. In the Cyber Security minor track, there are 33 credit hours.

The MS in Analytics program is a 100 percent online part-time innovative program that offers recorded live lectures. The recordings are available for viewing at any time. Curriculum in the 36 credit-hour program is offered in conjunction with the Mays School of Business with 67 percent statistics and 33 percent business courses. The five-semester program includes two on-campus residencies, three practicums and a capstone project in addition to coursework. Some of the courses in the program are Methods in Multivariate Analysis, Regression Analysis, and Advanced Programming Using SAS.

About Texas A&M

Texas A&M University is the second-largest public American university with the largest student body in the US. It is the only school in Texas that is a land, sea, and space grant university. The “A and M” designation is only a nod to the history of the school since it offers degrees in ten colleges. Besides the College Station, Texas campus, which has more than 63,000 students, 5,700 study at the satellite campuses in Galveston and Qatar. Texas A&M has the only veterinary medicine program in Texas.

Texas A&M University was founded in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas under the Morrill Land Grant. Initially, no agriculture courses were offered. After four years, however, students could earn degrees in Scientific Agriculture and Civil and Mechanical Engineering in addition to liberal arts degrees. All students were required to become members of the Corps of Cadets which was the student military organization. In 1963 the name of the school was changed to Texas A&M University, and the requirement to join the Corps program was dropped.

The US News and World Report ranks Texas A&M as # 69 of National Universities and as #43 of Best Value Universities. Most classes have between 20 and 49 students, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 21:1.

Texas A&M University Accreditation Details

The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The Mays School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The university also has many special accreditations for its other degree programs and departments.

Texas A&M University Application Requirements

First-time students applying as undergraduates must complete the online application available through ApplyTexas.org, selecting the appropriate designation. There is a non-refundable application fee of $75 which must accompany the application. In addition, students should arrange for their high schools, and any post-secondary institution where they have completed coursework, to send the official transcripts to the university. They must also have the testing agency submit the official SAT or ACT scores to the school. There is a required essay for all incoming students.

Graduate students applying to the university must also complete the online application through ApplyTexas.org. They should arrange for their official undergraduate transcripts and records to be submitted electronically. The university only accepts documents sent through PARCHMENT, SPEEDE, eSCRIP-SAFE or the National Clearing House. The GRE or GMAT results, whichever is required by the department, should be sent directly to the university by the testing agency. There is a $65 application fee for graduate students that must be paid at the time of application. In addition, there are other requisites that vary by department. These include three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose or an essay and a resume or CV.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The base undergraduate tuition at Texas A&M is $4,361.51 for 15 credits. The graduate base tuition for nine credits is $3,137.26. The cost-of-attendance for undergraduates, which includes fees, housing, meal plans, books and supplies and personal expenses, is estimated at $27,208 per year. Graduate cost-of-attendance is $28,660 including room and board. The tuition for online programs varies by degree and department and can be found on the school website.

Most students struggle to meet their educational financial obligations. The first step in getting help to pay these bills is completing the FAFSA ( Free Application for Federal Student Assistance) form. This government program determines financial need and awards grants, loans and work-study opportunities based on that eligibility. Grants available through the FAFSA program include the Pell Grant and the SEOG Grant which is a grant for students with exceptional financial need. Texas offers grants to eligible students as well through the Texas Public Education Grant, The TEXAS Grant, and the TEACH Grant.

Many students who do not qualify for grants will receive loan awards. Student loans carry lower interest rates than other types of loans and include the option of deferring repayment until after graduation. The Texas Be-On-Time Loan is a no-interest loan made to students with qualifying financial need.

In addition to grants and loans, there are scholarships available through the university that are based on academic excellence or academic excellence combined with financial need. Departments at the school offer scholarships to students in their program areas. Different activities and athletic programs also offer scholarships. Private individuals, service organizations, and corporations often fund outside scholarships that can be found through Internet scholarship searches. Work-study programs are another way to meet student debt and allow participants to gain valuable work experience that can add to their resumes. Students may also get part-time employment to help pay their educational expenses. The university provides free training for many of these jobs.

Texas A&M University also offers the Aggie Assurance Program that helps students with family incomes below $60,000. The program promises to package enough grant and scholarship money to cover tuition for students that meet this threshold of eligibility and who maintain acceptable academic progress.
