Online Big Data Programs at Ottawa

Since August 2014, the School of Arts & Sciences has granted a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Technology for Ottawa University undergrads to master the extraction methods for pulling data from various streams. Chaired by Dr. Steven Boese, the 120-unit degree is taught in Kansas and online via Blackboard to unlock entry-level analyst careers in a global market poised to hit $260 billion by 2022. Mandatory courses like Lean Six Sigma, Network Security, Information Forensics, and Introduction to Databases feature a 12:1 learner-faculty ratio for personalized mentoring. The Career Services Department can arrange for-credit, 14-week internship assignments, including McKinsey, Micron Technology, Unilever, Intel, Oracle, Capital One, and Nuvento. Graduates could enter the ACBSP-accredited Angell Snyder School of Business for the Executive MBA Concentration in Information Technology. Overseen by Dr. Terry Haines, the 42-credit option has eight-week online modules, such as Data Analytics and Cloud Computing, that meet one weekend in Overland Park, Phoenix, or Brookfield with 90 practicum hours.

Ottawa University originated in 1860 when Revs. John Tecumseh Jones and Jotham Meeker worked with the Ottawa Tribe to found the First Baptist Church along the Marais des Cygnes. On August 20, 1862, the Baptist State Convention utilized the donated 5,000 acres to officially found Roger Williams University. Slightly delayed by the Civil War, it became Ottawa University in 1865 and erected its first Tauy Jones Hall four years later. By 1905, Ottawa signed a covenant with the American Baptist Churches USA for Christ-centered schooling. During the 1970s, Ottawa University reshaped itself into an adult education pioneer. Before launching OU Online in 2008, Ottawa had added centers from Phoenix to Jeffersonville and between. Particularly, the Executive Master of Business Administration started admission in 2001. Endowed for $15.3 million, Ottawa University now enrolls over 4,000 Braves, including B.S. in Data Science and Technology majors, as a KCAC member with 30+ clubs.

Ottawa University Accreditation Details
On February 13, 2018, Ottawa University submitted to an interim comprehensive evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to properly retain Level III accreditation through 2023 under its 21st president, Dr. Kevin C. Eichner, the co-founder of Enterprise Financial Services Corporation. Located 564 miles northeast via Interstate 55 in Chicago, this giant 19-state Great Plains accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to evaluate Ottawa’s 36 baccalaureate, seven master’s, and four certificate offerings from Andover to Queen Creek or online. Belonging to the Midwestern Council Region 5, the Angell Snyder School of Business was also approved by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2016.
Ottawa University Application Requirements
Attending Ottawa University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s despite the 97 percent acceptance rate that allowed 1,689 of the 1,732 Fall 2017 applicants entry. First-year Braves starting the B.S. in Data Science and Technology should culminate an accredited high school or homeschool program. Four units of English, three units of Math, and three units of Science are preferred. GED recipients qualify with a minimum 450 composite score. Meeting the 2.0 cumulative GPA is expected, but the median is 3.28. On average, Ottawa freshmen present a 1010 SAT or 21 ACT mark. The Office of Admissions seeks a course completion rate above 70 percent for college transfers with 12-90 credits. International students verify English skills with TOEFL scores over 79 (internet) or 550 (paper). Executive MBA Concentration in Information Technology entrants need a four-year bachelor’s with prerequisites in Accounting and Economics. GMAT scores are optional, but GPAs of 3.0 or higher aren’t. Executives should also have five years of full-time business experience.
Ottawa University helps “Prepare for a Life of Significance” with a simplified, deadline-free admission process rolling year-round. Prospective Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Technology majors submit their $25 application online using the OUKS Portal. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Ottawa University is billing full-time B.S. in Data Science and Technology majors $14,205 each semester or $28,410 annually. Part-time Kansas study incurs $1,185 per credit. Summer School is significantly discounted to $595 per credit. Living at the Ottawa campus’ dorms like Martin Hall adds $3,680 to $8,300 yearly for housing. All-access meal plans for Hetrick Bistro cost $5,650. Budgets include a $260 facility fee, $780 student benefit fee, $240 technology fee, and $580 athletic participation fee. Traditional bachelor’s attendance equals $42,410 on-site or $32,640 with family. Online B.S. courses charge $499 per credit for a four-year total of $59,880 though. The Executive MBA Concentration in Informational Technology is priced at $4,860 per term or $29,160 overall.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office disburses $11.48 million yearly for 100 percent of full-time Ottawa Braves to land assistance averaging $17,947. Institutional funds include the Ottawa Indian Award, Life of Significance Award, Alumni Impact Scholarship, Franklin County High Achiever Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, Sibling Award, American Baptist Church Award, and Project Lead the Way Scholarship. The full-tuition Top Scholars Competition is open to high school seniors achieving a 3.5 GPA or 25 ACT score. Discounts are available via the Employee Educational Partnership with 15 companies, such as Gentiva, PerkSpot, Mazuma Credit Union, and Wheaton Franciscan. FAFSA applications coded 001937 by March 15th can qualify for Federal Pell or Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants. Kansas residents could claim the Comprehensive Grant, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, or Military Service Scholarship. Guaranteed Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits are $24,113 for veterans. Ottawa students also sign the Master Promissory Note for Federal Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and Graduate Plus loans.
