Master of Science in Computer Science and Quantitative Methods, Predictive Analytics Concentration

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology in partnership with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a Master of Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Quantitative Methods that is available on campus, online or in a hybrid version. The program brings together science and business in order to provide a competitive advantage in the workplace. Students gain an understanding of finite math, nonparametric statistics, regression analysis and the concepts of database management. Courses may include SAS Programming, Machine Learning, and Data Mining Applications.

Graduate Certificate in Data Mining

The Graduate Certificate in Data Mining is designed for those who need in-depth expertise in managing data. The program provides an understanding of concepts of data management, data mining applications, and management of application used in data mining. It requires the completion of 12 credit hours and helps prepare students for careers as data scientists, data managers, and decision support specialists.

Graduate Certificate in Data Science

Austin Peay State University offers a Graduate Certificate in Data Science that is available completely online. The program is for those who wish to learn modern data science techniques without completing a master’s degree. Courses required may include Database Management Concepts, Regression Analysis, The Generalized Linear Model and Experimental Design. It is designed for those who wish to obtain positions as contractors, data management experts or those who plan to enter the insurance, education or healthcare data industries.

About Austin Peay State University

The Austin Peay Normal School began in 1927 as a two-year junior college and teacher training program. However, the campus where the school stands has a long history of providing education to the area. In 1806, the Rural Academy was established on the property. When it closed in 1810, it was replaced by Mt. Pleasant Academy the following year. Mt. Pleasant closed its doors in 1824 and Clarksville Academy operated there from 1825 to 1848.

In 1849, the school became the Masonic College, operating under that name before it became Montgomery County Masonic College in 1851. That college closed in 1854.

Austin Peay began offering four-year degrees in 1939 and became Austin Peay State College in 1943. It gained university status in 1967.

Today, the University offers outstanding programs to more than 10,000 students who are enrolled. There are more than 2,700 military-related students enrolled, making it the largest provider of higher education to the military in the country. It has been named a Veteran’s Education Transition Support Campus (VETS) by the State of Tennessee. In 2015, the Army Reserve Officer Training Crops received the MacArthur Award, one of only eight awarded in the country.

Austin Peay State University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Accreditation is a process used to evaluate colleges and universities for quality and to assess their efforts to continually improve. The school undergoes peer reviews to ensure that the programs offered continue to meet acceptable levels of quality. Any areas identified as needing improvement are addressed immediately. Accreditation also qualifies students to receive federal financial aid and assures students that credits will transfer to other accredited universities. Austin Peay State University Application Requirements

Applicants to the Master of Science in Computer Science and Quantitative Methods, Predictive Analytics Concentration or Graduate Certificates in Data Mining or Data Science must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. All active-duty military members must apply via GoArmyEd. Official GRE or GMAT scores must also be submitted along with a current resume, letters of recommendation and a personal statement.

Austin Peay State University Tuition & Financial Aid

Graduate tuition is $440 per credit hour for in-state students and $699 per credit hour for out-of-state students. Online undergraduate tuition is $909 per credit hour for in-state students and $1,139 for out-of-state students enrolled in graduate programs.

Financial aid is available and the first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who wish to apply for scholarships must complete a scholarship application. The College of Graduate Studies offers a one-year non-renewable Diversity Graduate Fellowship to qualified Tennessee residents which provides up to $6,000 for fall and spring semesters. In addition, the national Phi Kappa Phi organization sponsors a graduate fellowship competition which awards 60 fellowships with $5,000 stipends each and 40 Awards of Excellence with a $2,000 stipend. In addition, Phi Kappa Phi offers 38 Study/Internship Abroad grants of $1,000 each.

Other scholarships and grants may be available from outside organizations. Graduate students are encouraged to seek additional funding on their own. They may also be offered loans to offset the cost of their tuition.
