Since September 2014, the Bill Greehey School of Business has granted San Antonio’s only BBA in Accounting and Data Analytics for St. Mary’s University undergrads called to scrutinizing statistics for impactful decision making. Chaired by Dr. Kent Royalty, an Emil Jurica Distinguished Professor, the unique 150-credit degree satisfies Texas CPA requirements in five years with added Big Data prep. Traditional daytime courses like Financial Modeling, Income Tax, Business Intelligence, and Database Management have an 11:1 student-faculty ratio for close mentorships. Undergrads with minimum 2.8 GPAs apply skills during 16-week internships at Rackspace, Liberty Mutual, Acelity, Tsakapulos Brown Schott & Anchors, Valero, and more. Other opportunities include joining ALPFA, pledging Beta Gamma Sigma, continuing for the Professional MBA, engaging in Business Week, touring Malaysia, taking the Washington Semester, becoming McNair Scholars, and managing the $1.9 million Investment Portfolio.
About St. Mary’s University
St. Mary’s University was established in August 1852 by the Brothers of the Society of Mary, the Catholic order of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, with an all-male inaugural class of 12. By 1882, the Institute was renamed St. Mary’s College and moved into San Antonio’s tallest new four-story “skyscraper.” In the 1920s, the School of Business Administration was formed, women were first admitted, and baccalaureates were added. During Rev. Walter Buehler’s 1950s tenure, St. Mary’s was transformed into the private, coed Marianist liberal arts ACCU member of today. Endowed for $168.8 million, St. Mary’s University now educates 3,649 Rattlers, including Accounting and Data Analytics BBA majors, for 63 percent graduation. Linked to 27,250 LinkedIn alumni, StMU has trained Felix Stehling, John Quiñones, James Clapper, Delia Garcia, and others at its 135-acre Woodlawn Heights campus west of Downtown.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked St. Mary’s the West’s 21st best college, 14th most veteran-friendly school, and third top value. On Niche, StMU boasts the 27th best Catholic education, 107th top accounting degree, and 151st best dorms nationally. Forbes placed St. Mary’s University 561st overall with the 359th top private education. The Brookings Institution named St. Mary’s the 17th best college with a 99/100 score. According to the Equality of Opportunity Project, StMU ranks 10th in Texas for median family income of $61,600. Times Higher Education crowned St. Mary’s the 495th top institution. Given the 2016 San Antonio Express Readers’ Choice Award, StMU was named 77th on the Social Mobility Index. College Factual also highlighted St. Mary’s University for the country’s fourth-best accounting value and 143rd best business department.
St. Mary’s University Accreditation Details
In 2014, St. Mary’s University submitted to a comprehensive evaluation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to keep the Level V accreditation up-to-date for 10 more years under its 13th president, Dr. Thomas Mengler. Located 998 miles northeast in Decatur, this 11-state Deep South agency is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to give academic authority to St. Mary’s 48 baccalaureate, 23 master’s, two doctoral, and nine certificate programs. The Accounting and Data Analytics BBA was also covered under the Greehey School’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation in 2018.
St. Mary’s University Application Requirements
Getting into St. Mary’s University is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because data shows 3,572 of the 4,468 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for 79 percent acceptance. First-year Rattlers striking the Accounting and Data Analytics BBA opportunity must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Keeping a minimum 2.5 GPA is required, but the current average is 3.44. Academic profiles depict a mean SAT score of 1042 and ACT score of 22. Freshmen are also evaluated for their curriculum rigor, service records, and resolve though. Taking tough AP exams like Calculus or Statistics carries credits if graded at least “4.” Transfers typically finish 30+ college credits, including English Composition, for a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better. Partnership with the Alamo Colleges allows up to 66 transfer credits guaranteed.
St. Mary’s University might have rolling admission, but December 15th is the priority deadline and May 1st is Decision Day for freshmen. International students with I-20 forms and TOEFL scores above 550 must apply by January 15th to waive a $30 fee. Accounting and Data Analytics BBA transfers should also meet the preferential deadline of June 1st for Fall, December 1st for Spring, or May 1st for Summer entrance. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, St. Mary’s University plans to charge full-time Accounting and Data Analytics BBA majors $14,855 per semester or $29,710 annually. Part-time study incurs $925 per credit, even during the Summer Session. Undergrads pay a $300 activity fee, $30 academic assessment fee, $50 information services fee, and $10 study abroad grant fee each term. Bookstore accounts bill $650 each semester full-time. Living at the San Antonio campus’ dorms like Donohoo Hall costs $2,730 to $3,900 per term. The Rattler 7 meal plan adds $2,130 with tax too. Annual bachelor’s attendance is roughly $44,490 on-site and $33,600 if commuting.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Assistance in Charles Francis Hall helps 90 percent of full-time St. Mary’s Rattlers reap average packages of $20,999 for $43.51 million total. Accounting and Data Analytics students access university funds like the Academic Merit Scholarship, Alumni Scholarship, Marianist Leadership Scholarship, Madeleine Scholarship, Bordeaux Scholarship, Dream Scholar Award, and Santa Maria Scholarship. The Greehey Scholars Program gifts four years of full BBA tuition for a minimum 1290 SAT score or 3.5 GPA. The Federal Pell and FSEOG Grant combine for up to $10,095 with eligible FAFSA applications coded 003623. Lonestar State natives access the TEXAS Grant, Tuition Equalization Grant, Armed Services Scholarship, and Fifth Year Accounting Scholarship. Veterans with honorable DD-214 discharge qualify for VA benefits. Undergrads working on-campus jobs get annual awards of $1,500 to $3,000. Borrowing Perkins, Stafford, Parent Plus, and Texas College Access loans is another StMU option with interest.
