Since August 2016, the Math & Computer Science Department has conferred the Data Analytics (B.A.) Major for 75+ Denison University undergrads to practice interpreting information collected by today’s foremost tech innovations. Directed by Dr. Jessen Havill, a 2013 Charles A. Brickman Teaching Excellence Award recipient, the 127-credit liberal arts bachelor’s gives students the computational methods to infer solutions from statistical figures. Courses like Multi-Variable Calculus, Data Mining, Research Methods, and Algorithms meet in Burton D. Morgan Center with a small 9:1 student-professor ratio. After the junior year, majors must complete 14-week summer internships, such as ICC Technology, Nielsen, State Auto Insurance, Mondelez, Charles River Laboratories, Matco, or Procter & Gamble. About Denison University

Denison University was initially called the Granville Literary & Theological Institution on its 1831 founding during Andrew Jackson’s presidency by John Pratt as the Allegheny’s second Baptist school. The male-only academy welcomed an inaugural class of 37 primarily from Licking County. In 1853, its name changed after agriculturalist William S. Denison donated $10,000 to their cause. Forty-seven years later, Denison merged with the Shepardson College for Women and became coeducational. By 1926, the Board of Trustees approved its liberal arts bachelor’s curriculum. Independent from the Baptist Church since the 1960s, Denison joined the elite Annapolis Group and Five Colleges of Ohio. Denison University Accreditation Details

On February 3, 2020, Denison University will undergo its next comprehensive evaluation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to renew the decennial Level II accreditation under its 20th president, Dr. Adam Weinberg, who earned the 2017 NACE Career Services Champion Award. Located 341 miles west on Interstate 30 in Chicago, this jumbo 19-state Great Lakes accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to ensure the academic soundness of Denison’s 54 baccalaureate offerings. Denison University has also been certified by the Ohio Board of Regents for B.A. and B.S. degrees only.

Denison University Application Requirements

Getting into Denison University is classified as “very difficult” by Peterson’s because just 3,001 of the 6,881 Fall 2016 applications were triumphant for 44 percent acceptance. First-year Big Red calculating entry into the Data Analytics (B.A.) must complete a high school diploma or state-approved equivalent. Having four years of English, math, and science under one’s belt is recommended. Admitted freshmen generally rank in their class’ top 20 percent with a median 3.7 GPA. On average, undergrads present a 1330 SAT score and 28 ACT score. Beyond grades, Denison looks for personal character, community involvement, and unique interests. For B.A. transfers, students must hold 16+ credits and good standing at other accredited colleges. Coursework graded “C” or better must be submitted on official transcripts within 180 days of completion. Around 17 percent of undergrads hail from 40+ other countries, so receiving an F-1 visa is required. English competency is proven with a minimum 65 Duolingo, 600 SAT Reading, or 80 TOEFL iBT score.

Denison University has set an Early Decision I deadline of November 15th, Early Decision II deadline of January 15th, and Regular Decision deadline of January 15th for freshmen. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Denison University is charging full-time Data Analytics (B.A.) majors $25,395 per semester or $50,790 annually. Excess credits bill $1,590 apiece.
