regis-universityRegis University is a private college in Denver, Colorado affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The Society of Jesuits moved to Las Vegas and established a school there that they named Las Vegas College. They then moved to Colorado and helped found a small school in 1884 called Sacred Heart College. These two campuses merged to form the College of the Sacred Heart at the end of the 1880s and settled on Denver as its primary location. It adopted a high school prep curriculum that allowed high school students to prepare for their college studies, but it later split that division off in to a separate high school. Though the school became Regis College in the 1920s, it gained university status in 1991.

Since its early days, the university offered programs designed to help those living in the surrounding communities around the campus. Some similar programs still exist and serve to help the homeless living in Denver. The university even puts on a Christmas party for homeless locals every year. Students often volunteer for programs offered through the Center for Service Learning (CSL). Those students can sign up to work on projects and in programs in and around Denver as well as programs taking place in other cities, states and parts of the world. U.S. News & World Report ranked Regis as the 23rd best university in its region. Enrollment at this university now includes more than 11,000 students.

Regis University Accreditation Details

Many students need some help paying for college, and those students should always ensure that the university they want to attend has regional accreditation, which is one of the requirements for getting federal aid. Regis has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and its North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). Some of the degree programs that this university offers also have accreditation like those in marriage and family therapy and nursing. Accreditation comes from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) among others.

Regis University Application Requirements

As Regis University offers both graduate degree and certificate programs, it’s important the prospective students use the right application when applying. All new users will need to create a new account, which requires the student’s full name, email address and phone number. Students will also need to explain where they heard about the university, list their academic level, select what they want to study and tell the university when they want to start. After filling out this information, students can create a password to log into the site. They use this same password to log in each time they need to work on their applications and to find out whether the university needs any more information. The university informs students of its application decision online too.

Some of the graduate programs at the university need other information for students too. These programs are only open to students who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school and those who will finish a bachelor’s program by the time they begin their classes. The university requires an official transcript to see where the student graduate within his or her class, the grades the student received and whether the student has a degree. Many programs ask for between one and three letters of recommendation and ask that professors and employers write those letters. Students may need to give the department a resume or a personal essay/writing sample too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Finding out how much it will cost a student to attend Regis University is difficult because each university program and department can set its own tuition rates. Tuition can range from $500 per credit hour to more than $800 per credit hour. This cost includes only tuition and not the fees that the university charges or any of the expenses that students have. Those expenses can include textbooks and other school supplies as well as transportation costs and living expenses.

The financial aid offered by the university falls into several different category types, but to get any type of assistance, students typically need to file the FAFSA. Federal direct loans are loans that come directly from the federal government. The government allows students to borrow around $20,000 a year but puts a cap on the total amount they can get at one time. PLUS loans are government loans that are only available to the parents and guardians of college students. The university has a remission program that provides free tuition to the children and spouses of those who work for the school, and it offers some scholarships too. Students can apply for alternative loans also.

Analytics and Science Programs

Regis University offers two graduate degree programs and a graduate certificate program for those interested in data science, data analytics or business analytics. It has a Master of Science in Data Science that includes elements of data engineering, statistics and data analytics. This program features a series of classes called the core and data science electives. Core courses include introduction to data science, data engineering, statistical methods and experimental design and other classes that are worth 18 credits. Students must also complete two practicums before they can graduate.

The data science certificate program is best for those who have less time to spend in school and those who do not need a full degree in this field. Students take just four classes that are worth 12 credits, including data analytics, data engineering, introduction to data science and a data science practicum. The university allows students to complete this program and transfer their credits to the full degree program at a later date.

Though the university does not offer a full degree program in business analytics, it does offer a Master of Science in Human Resource Management that includes courses designed to help students do research and analyze their findings. It features a core of three classes, six required human resource courses and a final capstone. Employment law and compliance, strategies in compensation and benefits, leading in a new era and employee relations and performance management are just some of the courses that students will need to take to complete this Regis University graduate program.
