Auburn University Business Data Degree Programs

Auburn University offers several business data programs through its Harbert College of Business. Students can earn baccalaureate and master’s degrees, certificates and a doctoral degree.
The Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics requires 123 credit-hours for graduation. The business core includes courses such as Principles of Managerial Accounting, Principles of Macroeconomics and other classes that impart an overview of business. Students also take concentration courses which include specific skills classes such as Business Analytics I and II, Information Analytics, Big Data I and II and others that deal with the analytics major.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management is also a 123 credit-hour program that includes the business overview accompanied by concentration courses such as Security and Information Assurance and Information Risk Analysis.
The Master of Science in Information Systems is intended for students who are already employed in the IT industry and want to improve their skills, or for professionals in other careers who want to delve into Information Technology. The program is delivered in either a traditional on-campus format or online. It includes 31 credit hours: ten three-credit courses and a GBE course. The GBE course is performed in the field and is an intensive experience. Required courses are Database, Systems Analysis and Design, and a field project. Traditional students usually complete the degree program in three semesters and a summer term. Online students can finish in three years or less, depending upon how many credits they take each term.
The Dual-Degree MBA/Master of Information Sciences adds another one or two semesters to the program length but allows students to graduate with two master’s degrees. It, too, is available on campus or online. Another option is the MBA with a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics or in Information Systems.
The post-master’s Certificate in Information Systems Management is comprised of four, three-hour courses for a total of 12 hours. It is a flexible program that allows students to choose concentrations to strengthen their skills in desired areas. It is offered on-campus or online. Courses are recorded and available for viewing two hours after the class period.
The other degree option is a Ph.D. in Business Information Systems.
About Auburn University
Auburn is a public university commissioned under the Morrill Land Grant program. It was founded in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College and was a private school affiliated with the Methodist Episcopalian Church. It was designated the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama in 1872. The school became the first four-year coeducational college in Alabama in 1892 and assumed its current identity in 1960.
The university has fifteen colleges, including an honors college, that house more than 140 majors. Its student body is comprised of more than 23,000 undergraduates. The on-campus enrollment is more than 30,000 students. Most classes have between 20 and 49 students, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 19:1. The US News and World Report ranks Auburn as #15 of National Universities.
University requisite courses include courses that support information literacy, analytics skills and critical thinking, communication skills, citizenship, scientific literacy, and aesthetic appreciation. The Harbert College of Business, which houses the business analytics programs, has the third-best internship program nationally and maintains a 94 percent student satisfaction rating.
Auburn University Accreditation Details
Auburn University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, the school has more than 41 special accreditations for departments and programs including the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for the Harbert College of Business.
Auburn University Application Requirements
Students must apply to Auburn University electronically and may begin applying September first. First-time undergraduates must submit their credentials and their medical exam report as soon as possible after that date. There is a $50 non-refundable application fee that must accompany the application and a $200 confirmation fee that must be paid after acceptance. Students will ask to have their high school transcripts sent to the university as well as their SAT or ACT scores.
Graduate students apply electronically too. They must arrange for the submission of transcripts for all undergraduate work they completed and the scores for their GRE or GMAT tests. They may also include up to three letters of recommendation. Other documents may be required according to the program of study or the department. The application fee for graduate students is $60.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition at Auburn University is $5,638 per semester. Room and board charges depend upon the choice of options but average $6,666. Books and supplies average $1,200, and the school estimates students will spend another $3,491 on personal expenses and incidentals. Graduate student tuition averages $5,641 per semester.
Earning a college degree is an investment and is not inexpensive. Most students will need help paying for their degrees. The first step in getting financial assistance is completing the FAFSA form. FAFSA is an acronym for Free Application for Federal Student Assistance. It is a federal program that awards grants, subsidized loans, unsubsidized loans and work-study opportunities for students according to financial need. Once students receive their award letter and know how much money they still need to meet their debts, they can apply for other grants and scholarships.
In addition to the federal grants, states offer education assistance. Alabama funds the Student Assistance Program Grant, The Student Grant Program, grants to people studying for certain careers, grants to people with certain circumstances such as disabilities and other financial assistance programs.
Auburn funds or manages several scholarships and grants as well. The 100 Women Strong Annual Scholarship, for instance, is for women enrolled in the College of Engineering. There are several scholarships at Auburn that are awarded based on academic merit, extracurricular activities, sports, and other criteria. The university also makes loans to students to pay their college debts. Other scholarship opportunities are funded by private individuals, service organizations or corporations. The Coca-Cola company, for instance, funds several scholarships for students who meet their eligibility guidelines.
Student loans are another option. FAFSA awards some of these, but banks and other lending institutions have these financial tools that carry low interest and allow students to defer repayment until after they graduate. Part-time jobs and work-study opportunities can also help students meet their obligations.
Using these resources students earning their master’s degrees in business data or information systems should be able to graduate from Auburn University with a manageable student debt.
