Five CCSU Pathways Toward Big Data Careers

Since 2001, the School of Engineering, Science, and Technology in Copernicus Hall has conferred the world’s first M.S. in Data Mining online for Central Connecticut State University post-grads learning the most current software applications to examine numbers. About Central Connecticut State University

Central Connecticut State University originated in 1849 as the Constitution State’s first publicly funded higher learning institution called the New Britain Normal School. In 1867, political conflicts in the Connecticut General Assembly forced a brief closure. Two years later, it was reopened to continue two-year teaching diplomas. By 1922, it became the Teachers College of Connecticut and built its current 165-acre Greater Hartford campus near Stanley Black & Decker. In 1933, it debuted the first Bachelor of Science program. Twenty-six years later, it dropped the teaching focus to become Central Connecticut State College. Accredited since 1947, it officially entered the 17-site Connecticut State University system in 1983. Graduate CCSU education kept expanding until its first MBA launched in 2014. Endowed for $65.7 million, Central Connecticut State University now employs 916 faculty educating 11,155 Blue Devils, including M.S. in Data Mining majors, online and on-site with 125+ organizations like MIS Club.

The U.S. News & World Report ranked Central Connecticut the 105th best Northern college and 31st top public university with the 144th best engineering school nationally. Central Connecticut State University Accreditation Details

On September 23, 2018, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) visited Central Connecticut State University to start the 10-year Level V accreditation review under its 13th president, Dr. Zulma R. Toro, who received the 2000 HENAAC Pioneer Award. Headquartered 112 miles up Interstate 84 in Burlington, this superb six-state Northeast accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to academically evaluate CCSU’s 77 baccalaureate, 58 master’s, two doctoral, and 17 certificate offerings. Specifically, Central Connecticut was first approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) on October 1, 1986. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) also accredited the Master of Business Administration in June 2014.

Central Connecticut State University Application Requirements

Attending Central Connecticut State University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 5,254 of the 7,870 Fall 2017 applicants were successful for just 67 percent acceptance. First-year Blue Devils seeking the B.S. in Management Information Systems are limited to Pre-Major status. Four years of English, three years of Math, and two years of Science are vital. Most freshmen rank in the upper half of their graduating high school classes. Formally declaring the Business Analytics Specialization then requires junior standing with 60+ credits. Each Pre-Major course, including MC 207, must be graded “C” or higher for GPAs above 2.5. Admission is test-optional, though SAT scores over 1000 are helpful. Unless waived, international students need 550 TOEFL and 6.5 IELTS marks or better. The School of Graduate Studies seeks regionally accredited bachelor’s with 3.0 GPAs for unconditional entrance. M.S. in Data Mining cohorts need at least two Applied Statistics courses. Passing the GMAT exam is also mandated for MBA entrants with GPAs below 3.20 and under five years of experience.

Central Connecticut State University requests freshmen apply before May 1st or April 1st if non-U.S. residents. Incoming B.S. in Management Information Systems transfers have until June 1st for Fall and December 1st for Spring. The School of Graduate Studies enforces general deadlines of June 1st and November 1st. However, the M.S. in Data Mining only considers Fall cohorts through May 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Central Connecticut State University charged in-state B.S. in Management Information Majors $5,288 by term or $10,576 annually. Non-resident undergrads pay $11,542 each full-time semester or $23,084 yearly. Studying part-time incurs $520 to $608 per credit. Online courses tack another $50 registration fee on. Living at the New Britain campus’ dorms like James Hall adds $3,502 to $4,768 each year. Standard meal plans for Devil’s Den are $2,586 to $2,886. CCSU budgets $1,150 for textbooks and $2,024 for extra essentials. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals $25,215 in-state and $37,904 out-of-state. Each term, the Larose Scholarship gifts $1,000 to two outstanding M.S. in Data Mining majors. The Graduate Student Association Scholarship has September 29th and January 26th deadlines for entrants with minimum 3.0 GPAs. Connecticut residents can pursue the CAPCS Grant, Capitol Scholarship, and Roberta B. Willis Scholarship. Submitting FAFSA applications coded 001378 determines Federal Pell or SEOG Grant eligibility.
