In North ECS Hall, the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science grants a BS in Data Science at a 23:1 student-professor ratio for University of Texas at Dallas Comets seeking the savvy quantitative skills to visualize numbers in this $23.5 billion global industry. Chaired by Dr. Ovidiu Daescu, the 120-credit, four-year curriculum became North Texas’ first focused on detailed information analysis in January 2019. Further, the Jindal School of Management created the MS in Business Analytics ranked ninth by The Financial Engineer for project-oriented information sciences training. Six specializations in Data Science, Health Analytics, Marketing Analytics, Financial Analytics, IT for Analytics, or Decisions & Operations Analytics are available. About the University of Texas at Dallas
The University of Texas at Dallas originated on December 6, 1941, or Pearl Harbor Day, when three geophysicists acquired GSI to form Texas Instruments Inc. now worth $14.96 billion. In 1961, it opened the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest at nearby SMU. On June 13, 1969, Governor Preston Smith signed legislation adding it to the statewide college system. The University of Texas at Dallas Accreditation Details
On December 9, 2018, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend the Level VI accreditation status of the University of Texas at Dallas through 2028 under its fifth president, Dr. Richard C. Benson, who earned the ASME Henry Hess Award. Located 797 miles east via Interstate 20 in Decatur, this esteemed 11-state Gulf Coast Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to evaluate UTD’s 48 baccalaureate, 57 master’s, 31 doctoral, and 33 certificate offerings. Particularly, the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science was last reaffirmed by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) on October 1, 2014. The Naveen Jindal School was also approved by the elite Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) on June 23, 2017.
The University of Texas at Dallas Application Requirements
Admission to the University of Texas at Dallas is classified “very difficult” by Peterson’s, though 8,965 of the 11,791 Fall 2017 applicants were victorious for 76 percent acceptance. First-year Comets flying into the BS in Data Science must exhibit trends of achievement in a college-prep secondary curriculum. Four years of Math and Science, including Geometry, are required. Two-thirds of freshmen rank in the top 25th percentile with a median 3.76 GPA. The Jonsson School seeks a minimum 23 ACT or 1130 SAT score. International learners must pass ESL Level 112 or score above 80 on the TOEFL Internet exam. Undergrads transferring 42+ credits from accredited colleges with GPAs above 2.7 have assured admission. Data Science prerequisites like Calculus I and CS Programming must be graded at least “C.” The Naveen Jindal School only considers MS in Business Analytics cohorts with minimum 3.0 GPAs in four-year bachelor’s study. Knowledge of statistics and calculus is strongly mandated. On average, master’s students present a 310 GRE or 600 GMAT score. Summa Cum Laude grads of AACSB- or ABET-accredited schools are test-exempt.
The University of Texas at Dallas has freshman priority deadlines of January 15th for Fall, May 15th for Spring, and October 15th for Summer entry. Non-U.S. residents must apply by May 1st, October 1st, or March 1st. Undergrad transfers have until July 1st, November 1st, or May 1st though. The MS in Business Analytics considers Naveen Jindal School cohorts until May 1st yearly. Accordingly, log into the ApplyTexas platform online for the $50 ($75 if graduate) application. Official transcripts go to 800 West Campbell Road in Richardson, TX 75080. Test submissions require SAT/GRE code 6897, ACT code 4243, or GMAT code ZTZ-PQ-18. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the University of Texas at Dallas has charged in-state BS in Data Science majors $6,744 per semester or $13,488 annually. Non-resident undergrad tuition rose to $19,056 by term or $38,112 each year. Living at the D-Town campus’ dorms like Canyon Creek Heights adds an estimated $5,766 for semester room and board. UTD budgets $600 for books, $740 for transport, and $1,020 for personal expenses. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals around $29,740 in-state and $54,364 out-of-state. The 12-month MS in Business Analytics published a $14,954 Texas rate. Non-resident graduate tuition grows up to $30,464 total. Naveen Jindal School students spend roughly $1,300 on books. Other budget items include $11,044 for off-campus housing, $2,140 for travel, and $2,142 for personal.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in the SSB Building gets 74 percent of incoming UTD Comets soaring with median assistance of $14,321 each for $29.14 million overall. Jonsson School funds include the Excellence in Education Scholarship, Lars Magnus Scholarship, Leland Dillaha Scholarship, Lennox International Scholarship, Emma & Vittorio Argento Scholarship, Mason Brown Family Scholarship, Krish Prabhu Opportunity Scholarship, Mustang Technology Scholarship, Phil Ritter Scholarship, Rockwell Collins Scholarship, and Scott Wuensch Memorial Scholarship. The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program would cover full BS in Data Science tuition with $12,000 stipends for National Merit Semifinalists with minimum 1490 SAT marks. MS in Business Analytics students exceeding the 3.0 GPA apply for the $1,000 JSOM Graduate Scholarship. The Career Center offers Work-Study jobs for taxed income of at least $7.25/hour. FAFSA applications coded 009741 judge Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, or Direct Loan eligibility. Longhorn State natives also pursue the Texas Public Education Grant, TEXAS Grant, and Armed Services Scholarship.
