Data Science Degree Programs Guide - Top Master's Degrees-01According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for database administrators is growing with over 12,800 new job expected to be added through 2029. For organizations and corporations that store and use large quantities of information, the database administrator plays a crucial role. Database administrators use software to organize and store data, protect the data from unauthorized access, update permissions, and merge old databases into new ones. Many schools offer advanced training for this role through a masters degree or certificate program. These specialized programs are a specialization or concentration within IT, computer science, or information systems.

To showcase some of the best programs out there for database administrators, we created a ranking of the top 20 online master’s degrees in database administration. These may be stand-alone programs, concentration areas within IT or computer science departments, or other programs with substantial database coursework that could lead to a role as a DBA. We used College Navigator and our own online research to find schools offering these types of programs in a flexible online format. To be considered for our ranking, schools must be regionally accredited and offer a curriculum with coursework in database administration or management. Schools that made our top 20 have faculty who are industry experts. Each online program provides students with mentoring and networking opportunities. For the purpose of this ranking, we defined an online program as one having a significant number of courses available online. We then applied our ranking criteria to come up with the top 20 online master’s in database administration programs.

Rating and Ranking Methodology
