About Saint Joseph’s University

Saint Joseph’s University is a private university affiliated with the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Roman Catholic Church. Founded in 1851 as Saint Joseph’s College, it originally had a faculty department that included just 10 Jesuits. They both lived on-campus and were responsible for educating incoming students. The university still has a large population of Jesuits, including those who work for the university and those who take classes. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a portion of its campus is in a nearby township. Often called SJU, it has on-campus housing for both undergraduate and graduate students and an enrollment of more than 8,000 students across all its programs.

Saint Joseph’s University Accreditation Details

SJU has accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), which allows the university to offer on-campus classes and online courses for students who live inside or outside of Pennsylvania. MSCHE accreditation also gives students the choice of getting financial aid when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Most of the university’s data science programs also have accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Saint Joseph’s University Application Requirements

Graduate students applying to SJU need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a school with regional accreditation. Though SJU doesn’t have set application deadlines, it recommends that students apply by the middle of July for the fall semester. Incoming students must also complete the application packet, which features the application, two letters of recommendation, a resume, and a personal statement. That statement should follow an essay format and explain what goals the student has at SJU and the future. The university asks for all undergraduate transcripts unless the student attended SJU and a $35 application fee. Most graduate programs require a GRE or GMAT score that is no more than seven years old. Students who hold a professional license in the United States or have a terminal or graduate degree do not need to provide a test score.

Tuition and Financial Aid

SJU charges different tuition rates for graduate students based on their programs. This starts at $1,075 per credit hour for those in the business intelligence and analytics and marketing programs. In the MBA programs, majors pay $1,673 in the 20-month track and $2,310 in the one-year track. In the health administration program, students pay only $887 per credit hour. They also pay between $720 and $1,349 per credit hour in their online classes.

Graduate students should file the FAFSA by April first. They will get a notification about their award packages by the end of June. Federal direct loans go to grad students who complete the loan counseling program and agree to take at least six credits of courses. Students may qualify for some of the alternative loans that are available or one of the scholarships offered by the university’s departments. Saint Joseph’s University encourages students to apply for any of those scholarships before they take out the maximum loan limit available for students in its data science programs.
