Data Science, Data Analytics, and Business Analytics Degrees at OU

The University of Oklahoma offers a Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics through the Gallogly College of Engineering. The program strives to help shape the application of data and information. It introduces students to the development of analytical methods and models to obtain new information from large and complex data. Students learn about the development of algorithms from a systems perspective. They also learn about the required computational strategies to develop, understand, and change data into knowledge. The curriculum combines knowledge and expertise from computer sciences and systems and industrial engineering. Students build a solid foundation in theory and applying data science.
The program is designed for students to complete in 14 months if they are completing courses on a full-time basis. Part-time options are also available. Courses are offered on-campus, online, or a combination of both to meet the diverse needs of students. The program requires the completion of at least 33 credit hours, including core courses, electives, and hands-on experience or thesis. The core courses include computing structures, database management systems, fundamentals of engineering statistical analysis, intelligent data analysis, algorithm analysis, and advanced analytics and metaheuristics.
After the completion of the core courses, students are required to complete a practicum component or compose a thesis. The practicum is completed only after all core courses have been completed. It is the knowledge from in the core courses that will enable the student to be successful. Graduates of the data science and analytics program will help in transforming the way organizations produce and innovate by looking at future operations. Graduates of the data science and analytics program at the University of Oklahoma will have the abilities to design and construct tools to separate, integrate, and evaluate data and lead successful careers.

The University of Oklahoma, or OU, is a large, public research institution of higher learning located in Norman, Oklahoma. OU offers more than 150 bachelor’s degree programs, 160 master’s degrees, and 75 doctoral degrees through its 15 colleges. The student to faculty ratio at the University of Oklahoma is 17 to one and 46 percent of the classes have fewer than 20 students.
The University of Oklahoma was founded in 1890 as Norman Territorial University. The first students were enrolled in 1892. The College of Arts and Sciences was established in 1893 and the university awarded its first degrees in 1898. In 1901, the first woman earned her bachelor’s degree at OU. After the school’s only building burned down in 1903, construction of a new building and additional structures began. When Oklahoma officially became a state in 1907, the school’s name changed to the University of Oklahoma. In 1909, the law school was approved. The university expanded throughout the next several decades, adding buildings and programs, and by 1932 it included 167 acres. After World War II, the university experienced rapid growth and increased enrollment. By 1965, the school was home to about 17,000 students. The university continued to expand and establish new programs and its sports programs began to gain national recognition.
Today, OU is home to more than 20,000 undergraduate students and over 6,000 graduate students. It is well known for its academic excellence and strong community. The U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Oklahoma number 41 in its Top Public Schools publication and number 97 in its National Universities publication.

The Higher Learning Commission regionally accredits the University of Oklahoma to grant bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The business programs at OU are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Federal Work-Study Program
OU participates in the Federal Work-Study Program which provides funding to students who demonstrate a significant financial need. Students are able to earn money working in part-time positions while pursuing their college education. They are generally paid every other week and the hourly wage is negotiated between the student and the employer.
